Vision Therapy

Vision Therapy is an effective treatment for many visual processing deficits. Vision therapy is similar to how physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy are delivered and involved individualized treatment plans to aid in the development or rehabilitation of the visual system.

Conditions we treat:

  • Ocular motility dysfunction – Eye movement disorders
  • Vergence dysfunction – Inefficiency in using both eyes together
  • Strabismus – Misalignment of the eyes
  • Amblyopia – Lazy eye
  • Accommodative disorders – Focusing problems
  • Visual information processing disorders
  • Visual sensory and motor integration

What is VT?

  • A progressive program of vision procedures
  • Performed under doctor supervision
  • Individualized to fit the visual needs of each patient
  • Generally conducted in-office, in once- or twice-weekly sessions of 30 minutes to an hour, sometimes with homework

What does VT use?

  • Therapeutic lenses
  • Prisms
  • Filters
  • Occluders or patches
  • Electronic targets with timing mechanisms
  • Balance boards
  • A variety of special tools designed for specific and unique vision therapy activities

What is the goal of VT?

  • Help patients develop or improve fundamental visual skills and abilities
  • Improve visual comfort, ease, and efficiency
  • Change how a patient processes or interprets visual information

Adult Vision Therapy

Vision Therapy for Adults

In adulthood, vision issues that originated in childhood may reappear and contribute to exacerbated or new challenges. Spending prolonged periods in front of a computer or experiencing symptoms such as headaches, double vision, eye strain, difficulty focusing on nearby objects, or increased clumsiness warrants an assessment of your visual abilities. This evaluation can determine whether you have developed the necessary skills to effectively carry out daily tasks..

Adults can always benefit from Vision Therapy (VT). We provide treatment for adults with vision issues stemming from brain injuries, balance disorders, and digital eye strain.

There’s no age restriction. The brain is neuroplastic, remaining dynamic and adaptable throughout life. Similar to training a muscle or playing an instrument, your skills improve with practice, enhancing your visual function.

Vision Therapy for Children

Having perfect eyesight doesn’t guarantee perfect vision! Even after your child has had an eye exam, they could still be facing challenges due to underlying vision issues. Here are several critical questions to consider that may signal the presence of a vision problem.

Vision and Learning Connection Chart

Does my child perform better with larger print?

If your child finds it easier to read or perform tasks with larger print compared to smaller print, the primary difference lies in the visual presentation. This preference strongly suggests that vision may be a factor causing interference.

Does my child perform better listening rather than reading?

If attention and/or comprehension improve when bypassing the visual system, there’s a strong indication that vision is causing interference. Naturally, if a child experiences difficulty reading due to a vision disorder, they may prefer listening for better understanding.

Did my child perform well in the early grades and is struggling more as they get older?

Early education typically involves larger pictures and individual letters. However, as reading instruction begins, there are fewer pictures and smaller text on the page. This shift places greater demands on visual processing, which can lead intelligent children to struggle if their vision is interfering.
